ClaSs 3: aFfiRmaTiOn (19 Jun ’09)

This class was the first time we moved to room 320 which is much better for me: much more comfortable with a large desk, great! And here are what i learned.

“KAIZEN”
it’s the Japanese word which means “a small improvement but a big effect” which tells us that sometimes simple approaches solve difficult problems or a little change from the way what we always do may make our life much better! so all we have to do when having hard problems is paying attention to every ideas because it may lead to a good solution ^^

“Affirmation”
another interesting word that i think i used to hear about but never know its true meaning. It’s just when you tell yourself something that you want yourself to be. When we affirm ourselves something over and over again, our minds gradually absorb it until we at last believe it. This is very useful when telling ourselves that we can do hard things. Anyway, to make something our habit, we have to do it for at least 21 days. So, if we want to be anything, we have to try enough and use affirmation to help us to reach our goals.

Sometimes, predictions about a person become true because when that person hears it, he/she believes it and so acts according to that prediction. This is called the self-fulfilling prophesy which is a result from the affirmation as well.

“We always have best ideas when we’re relaxed”
There are 5 types of human brain waves in order of increasing frequency: delta, theta, alpha, beta, gamma. We have the highest brain wave frequency when we are anxious and have the lowest frequency when we are in a deep sleep. Anyway, the best range of frequency for think is the range of alpha type which we have when we feel relaxed and have no worry. As the result, if you have to think something hard which can drive you crazy, wind down a little bit may help!

“Mindfulness vs Concentration”
These 2 words are similar and always brought up together but their meaning are actually quite different. Mindfulness is knowledge of what we are doing and the situation we are in but Concentration is the state of focusing on what we are doing and not to be easily distracted. Having any of mindfulness and concentration are good but having only concentration but not mindfulness can be useless, for instance, a person who talks on a mobile phone and concentrates on what a person on the other side is speaking but isn’t aware of things around him might be picked pocket or get in an accident.

For me, the hi-light of this class is the affirmation because i like the way to tell myself and my friends everyday that, “I have great creativity” and “You have great creativity”!
